DIY Spa day in the comfort of your home

At the end of the long working week, it’s understandable that you might feel a little frazzled. Office life has taken its toll and you’re in need of some serious TLC this weekend. But, you’re half way through the month and pay day feels like an eternity away, so a girly day out isn’t in the budget.

Enter the ‘home spa’… A budget friendly option, minus the awkward small talk with your beauty therapist. Here are a few ways you can transform your home into a personal sanctuary.

  1. Set the scene

The first step to DIYing your own personal retreat is to replicate the sense of calm that makes spa’s feel so welcoming. Dim the lights, light some scented candles, choose a soothing playlist and prepare yourself for an hour of tranquillity. There’s nothing like some dulcet tones and the scent of sweet vanilla to get you feeling ‘zen’.

  1. Stay hydrated (Popaball)

Whilst Iced water and herbal teas are top of the menu at the spa, at home you get to play by your own rules. Crack open the champers, pour yourself a glass of fizz and unwind as the bubbles go straight to your head. If you’re feeling extra indulgent you could mix in some prosecco shimmer for some added glam factor!

  1. Pamper time

Now, it’s time to treat your skin to a nourishing facial treatment that’ll leave you feeling completely and utterly relaxed. Open your pours with a gentle facial steam. Simply add boiling water and a few drops of essential oils into a bowl and allow it to cool for a few minutes. Place your face in the bowl, with a towel over your head to seal in the steam and breathe deeply for 10-15 minutes.

Now your pours are open, your skin will respond much better to the treatment. You could pick up a hydrating face mask, or just use your daily moisturiser and spend some extra time massaging the cream onto your skin. You’ll get a luxurious feeling without spending any extra cash.

Whilst your skin is rehydrating you can give your hair some attention. Apply a rich conditioner and allow it to absorb for 10-20 minutes, before rinsing it off in the shower.

  1. Run yourself a bath

No pamper night would be complete without a warm bath, so pick out your favourite fizzer or bubbles and give yourself half an hour to soak in pure bliss. Show your body some love with a rejuvenating coffee scrub and then apply a light moisturiser before slipping into your jim-jams for a chilled evening – just you and your favourite rom-com.
