Alnwick Castle, UK.
Forget the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Florida. Hundreds of muggles make their way to Alnwick Caste every day to walk the familiar grounds of the Hogwarts Castle. This iconic castle, located on England’s North East coast, was used for the exterior shots of Hogwarts in both Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Furthermore, it’s the main location where Harry took his flying lessons with Madame Hooch.
When you do visit, watch your forehead though, as we know how mischievous those flying brooms can be.
Skopelo, Greece
Mamma mia, here I go again
My my, how can I resist ya?
Truly, one cannot resist the white sand, crystal blue water beaches of Skopelo. Not only that, it’s also where the main outdoors scenes of Mama Mia! were filmed. Do you hear the wedding bells? That would be the church Agios Ioannis in Castri, located on top of a rock with amazing coastal views of Skopelos and Alonissos, where the main wedding scenes were filmed.
If you decide on this place for a wedding destination, and if you do decide to invite your mother’s past lovers, well, good luck!
Tatooine, Tunisia
Travel back in time and through galaxies with a visit to the place where Luke Skywalker would feel at home – non-arable desert, beneath scorching hot sun, a landscape formed by heat, sand and dust. Discover the place where the very first Star Wars film was ever filmed before terrorism swallowed the scenery in sand dunes.
Who knows you might run into your own Han Solo and embark on adventures around the world!
Cathy’s Corner, Mount Hollywood Drive, USA
See a backdrop with your own eyes that’s been featured on most billboards and movie posters for the award-winning musical La La Land. The scenery overlooks the San Fernando Valley and if you time it right you too could have your own magical six-minute song-and-dance number featuring dusky sky. Unfortunately, from the original location, the street lamps and the park bench are absent.
The hunk Ryan Gosling does not come with the view either, so you’ll have to bring your own.
Waverley Station, Edinburgh
Chances are, if you’re visiting Edinburgh and are arriving via train you’ll step a foot in Waverly Station. It’s one of Scotland’s busiest rail stations and despite the convincing movie magic the station is intact and welcomes travellers from all over the world. If you’re at the station make sure you pass by platform 2 as this is where Scarlet Witch and Vision were ambushed by Thanos’ minions.
We’re not saying run around the station in your hero’s footsteps saving people, but do make sure you mind the gap when exiting the train.
